Yesterday I painted the ribs and right breast as well as the torso.We have a few more sessions and I'm trying to get this painting finished.

I had a chance to paint a bit today from the model. I shaped the head in the back worked on some of the lighter areas that got dirtied up the week before when my painting fell face down on the ground. I am continuing to model the hands feet and left extended thigh. I also painted the shadow gradation on the right breast.

I worked on so many areas yesterday the face the head the left arm the right thight and the knees. Sadly when I took this painting to photograph it a strong gail wind blew the painting face down. I picked it up and it had pebbles and dirt all over the wet areas. I was so frustrated with what had happend and just decided to let the painting alone until today's portriat class I was able to remedy part of the problem by carefully brushing away the imbedded dirt.. I'm going to have to paint over some of the dirtied up parts when our class resumes after Juliette's workshop.

I worked on developing the form in the neck. I initially began drawing with a 4h pencil and now I'm up to a 4b and filling at times with H and HB pencil. The model Sarah cut her hair last week so I had redraw her head and hair on top of it. I will continue with our session a week from Thursday after our BACAA Juliette Aristides workshop coming up next week

I worked on the hair the neck the lower thigh the fignres and a bit on the feet this past Wednesday. Still have a long way to go and many layers to paint. I'm enjoing every brush stroke and feel in command of my painting.

I worked on this paining for4 days of our second week with Carl Dobsky. I finished the color wash and began applying the first pass with the medium and I'm planning a second and a third until it looks right. I began topaint form painting with the medium in on the left cheak and the forhead. I have not worked on the nose in progression as of yet but will plan to complete the painting pending time with the model.

I worked from the model for this drawing during our BACAA Carl Dobsky workshop. I transfered this drawing to the canvass yesterday and began to work on the painting in the wash.

8-6 I reworked the left eye a bit more and gradated the forhead just a few minutes of time today.

8-4 I took my time today and worked many parts of the drawing during our BACAA Tuesday class. I set up the easel in front of me and put up a small 12 x 14 mirror. I faced the north window at Barrett hall.
I worked the eyes I paid close attention to the eyelids and lower lids. I reshaped the left side of the nose and paid attention to the terminator on as the dark light turns into the terminator. I also reshaped the lips and eyebrows. I worked a bit on the hair strands and lightend and shaped the forms on the forehead.

I worked a bit more on my self portrait at Barrett hall today in between teaching. I reshaped the left eye. I dropped down the shadows on the left temple and forhead. I also worked on the upper right lip. I'm almost there just need to work on darkening the hair.

I had a short time to work on my self portrait perhaps less than one hour in between teaching at BACAA our Tuesday cast and self portrait class. I worked on my left eye and tried to develop the forms on the eye lid and adjusted the tilt of the left eye and rendered the left side of my face. I also worked a bit on the bridge of the nose. Hopefully if I have time this week I'll reshape the mouth and render the forhead and see how it looks then.

I feel good about my progress so far I am working at observing the structures and the forms. This pose is frontal facing the north window so there are a few prominent shadows otherwise the gradation is pretty subtle.

I'm doing major surgery at this point probably not a good idea but I had change the tilt of the nose and I've just reblocked the left eye. I will be working on my self portriat this coming Tuesday during class if I have time.

I am still refining my self portrait I worked on the eyebrows today and started drawing the forms in the hair. I also tried to get a graduating sense of the light. I was at Barrett for about 1.5 hours today. I will continue next week on Tuesday during our BACAA self portrait and still life class. I am facing the high light at Barrett and using a mirror that is on an easel

I started this drawing last Sunday during a 3 hour session at BACAA Open Studios. I'm in the block in stage and will refine the drawing this coming Sunday.

Last Thursday I worked on this figure drawing breifly while teaching the Thursday class at BACAA. I'm still not comfortable with the tilt of the Pelvis. I will continue with the pose in a couple of weeks and hopefully correct the pose

I started this painting on Sunday I've been very inspired by the texture of silk baggies I placed a yellow glass pear inside the bag. The silk baggy has gold tassels. The set up is in my kitchen I have a north facing window which help to see the value and gradation. I'm in the wash in stage just using paint and thinner at the moment. I will refine the drawing hopefully I'll have more time this week to continue to paint

I worked on my self portrait yesterday at Barrett hall using a mirror. I redifined my eyes and nose and looked observed at how the light was falling on my lips I am continuing to draw the hair the portrait is not quite there yet. I have a ways to go before it's completed.

Drawing one's self portriat is like a long term relationship there is so much to be discovered and it's constant adjustments. I am continuing to correct and observe how the light is falling on my face and how to think about the egg shape and gradation of value.

I started this reclinining pose two sessions ago during our Thursday figure drawing and painting sessions. Between working with the students and critiquing their work I've managed to get the block in drawn. I'm planning on continuing to correct and redraw from the model.

Linda Dulaney Bio

I am the founder of Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier. At BACAA I teach art classes during the week at Barrett Hall studio, Belmont CA. I am is also available to teach students privately. Please visit the BACAA website for class schedule.

I am continuing my studies with Master Artist Ted Seth Jacobs "Restructured Realism" in BACAA sponsored painting and drawing programs. I also studied with Tony Ryder from 2001-2006 by attending yearly workshops. Tony taught at BACAA in the studio for five years 2001-2005.
